For two weekends in November, Zenon returns to the Ritz Theater with three premieres, including a new full-company, modern-dance work by New York choreographer Sydney Skybetter (skybetter.org). Skybetter's work has been hailed for its rigorous formalism and emotional depth.
Also on the fall program is a new jazz duet by Judith James Ries (Minneapolis), a Zenon School instructor. Ries is also a protege of jazz icon Danny Buraczeski; a long-time performer with his company JAZZDANCE, she is now a jazz choreographer in her own right. A new solo by Emilie Plauche Flink (Minneapolis), a co-founder and co-artistic director of Black Label Movement and former dancer with Jose Limon Dance Company, completes the trio of premieres. The program also includes repertory favorites.
